Scrap Copper Price Per Pound US 2012

Prices for scrap copper vary depending on the type of scrap being recovered. Die cast scrap is usually the most sought after, as well as the wiring found on electrical motors and generators.

Prices on most metals, including copper, peaked in 2008 and 2009 when you could command anywhere from $10 to $25 per pound of copper depending on the quality.

There has been a downward trend in the prices of copper and copper wiring lately. For example, prices in Spokane Washington range from $2.45 per pound of Number 1 copper wire, to $2.25 for Number 2 grade.

A recent search shows the price of copper in Michigan at $2.65 a pound for Number 1 copper, $2.60 a pound for Number 2 copper and $2.45 a pound for Number 3.

In the Eastern US, recent prices have been at $3.15 per pound for Number 1 grade copper, $2.90 for Number 2 grade, and $2.75 for Number 3.

The prices in California where at $3.45 per pound for Number 1 copper according to a recent search.
